General Description : A semi-crystalline, normally dark colored high performance thermoplastic that is commercially available only in filled or reinforced grades. Reportedly, its low glass-rubber transition temperature leads to unimpressive properties for unreinforced grades but the reinforced ones, annealed after moulding, have high crystallinity, particularly good thermal stability and the properties typical of (reinforced) high performance thermoplastics (see PEEK). It is somewhat less expensive than most high performance thermoplastics, although its long-term continuous use temperature is somewhat lower than that of PEEK. The 40% glass fiber reinforced grade stocked by Goodfellow has a good balance of strength, stiffness and has good dimensional stability but is rather notch-sensitive. It is used for precision mechanical parts, electrical components and pumps, valves etc, for use in aggressive environments in process industry. |
